Monster Hunter Tales

In preparation of next week’s Monster Hunter episode, I wanted people to share their favorite tales of the hunt, whatever version of the game they were playing at the time.

Tri:  I was playing with Adell and two other randoms.  We were trying to cap a Rathian.  We got the Rathian’s HP down low enough, and we all gathered on the far side of a shock trap to bait her over.  The moment Rathian hit the trap, Adell upswung all of us with his switchaxe, causing all of us to go flying.  As Adell did not have any tranq bombs on him, the Rathian broke free of the trap long before the rest of us could get back up again.

He swears he did it by accident.  I don’t believe him. :P

Portable 3rd: Again I was playing with Adell and two others.  We were fighting Amatsu Magatsuchi, and we had already carted twice!  Amatsu prepared to wind up his insta-kill tornado spin attack.  Three of us bolted away from him…  Adell stayed under him and tried to make him flinch.  Adell failed.

Ok, I’m done bashing Adell. ;P

P3rd again:  I was soloing Jhen Mohran, I went to jump on his back and missed and landed in the sand.  As I was climbing back to the ship, one of my cats made him flinch and I got swept up by Jhen’s tail.  Seizing the opportunity, I ran up Jhen’s back with the intentions of planting some bombs on his tusks.  But Jhen did his rock throw just as I reached the middle of his back… and he tossed me along with the rocks!  Somehow I managed to land on his back again, but I got thrown off immediately afterwards… mainly because I was laughing too hard to see straight. XD

Freedom Unite:  I was doing the training hall quests, and was struggling with the Tigrex arena quests.  I was attempting to kill him with the hunting horn.  My health was low, I had no potions left.  I was in the middle of playing a song and he came charging at me full force.  I knew I couldn’t dodge in time, so I went for broke:  I swung my horn to play the next note, smashing Tigrex right in the snout and flinching him out of his charge.  I did manage to clear that quest.  ;P

Tri:  Adell, myself, and two of our friends were hunting Deviljho, and we needed his tail.  Our friend Dryden was using a Great Sword, and I was gunning.  I managed to put Jho to sleep a second time, and we decided to bomb his tail instead of his face, since we had already broken it.  Dryden charged up his sword and let loose a mighty swing!  BOOM!  Jho’s tail exploded off his body and Dryden went flying across the screen. XD

She’s never done bashing me; it is never ending.

My favorites would be mostly in P3rd. I was hunting Zinogre with Dis and Rin. I prefer bows, so while they hacked away at the monster, I would charge up and do the arrow rain. Only problem was I had my grenade bow, which basically means it does a nice AoE explosion that effects everyone and thing. Just remembering how mad they were when I blasted them away from Zinogre brings a smile to my face.

Another one would be when we were hunting a Gold Rathian. I was once again on bow (no grenades this time), and the others were trying to break her bits off. Gold Ian wouldn’t hold still, so I got into position and proceeded to go on a 5 flinch spree. She didn’t survive much longer once Quag got a good shot at her head with the hammer.

Tri has some fun tales as well. Like when I would upswing Rin onto Jhen’s back when he was erupting from the sand. Or when I discovered that if you ride Jhen’s head, you can attack and get back to the boat when he bucks you off. Also smoke bomb at the start of every Alatreon fight.

Hopefully we can share those moments with everyone when MH3U comes out; perhaps even stream it.

I still await the day I can hit Jho in the face and his tail pops off…

GAH!  How could I forget Mini Peco!

Adell had the brilliant idea of having three people all use hammers to hunt the Mini Crimson Qurupeco in MHP3rd (who, btw, is even smaller than the Mini Uragaan in Tri.)  I was about to superpound Peco when all I see is Adell running in from one side and Dryden running in from the other.  POW.  I went flying. XD
