POKEMON: THE ORIGIN ANIME
I don’t usually talk about the Pokemon anime in this feature, but I think this qualifies as something a bit more special than the usual stuff: Pokemon Red and Green will be getting their own animated special titled Pokemon: The Origin.
The trailer above shows how this story is closely tied to the original Game Boy games with Red as the protagonist (not Ash Ketchum) battling against his rival Green (not Gary Oak). We also catch glimpses of Professor Oak, Gym Leader Brock, and Elite 4 Lance.
Set to air October 3, we don’t know if Pokemon: The Origin will be a single special or a mini-series along the lines of Pokemon Chronicles. But the longer the better in my opinion, as long as the story moves along at a good click without the overdone friend-making side quests.
As much as I wish something like this could replace the current anime, I know that’s just not possible. So the most I hope for here is an original reboot of the Pokemon world – a world where playboy Brock, and the absent-minded Professor Oak simply don’t exist as we know them from previous incarnations.
BAG YOUR SHINY DIALGA
If you have Pokemon Black, White, Black 2 or White 2, you can visit your nearest GameStop to receive a shiny Dialga up until September 8 if you are in the US.
If you are in the UK or certain other regions of the world, you may need to wait to get yours between August 30 and September 12 from GAME retailers.
MYSTERY POKEMON TITLE
A screenshot was captured from a YouTube video taken at the Pokemon Game Show, and it’s been no small source of curiosity in the Pokemon community.
The video itself (posted by YouTuber SIZUMA1) was a retrospective piece, showing all the Pokemon games throughout history, ending with a teaser for Pokemon X & Y. But just before the video cuts off, we see this scene of two high-res Pokemon squaring off. It could just be a CGI clip made specifically for the video (which contained plenty of similar footage), or it could be a new game that’s yet to be announced.
The most likely answer is this is the Wii U version of Pokemon Colosseum, which would allow players to battle with their Pokemon X & Y monsters on the big screen. They always make a game like that for each generation, so I wouldn’t be surprised. I just hope they do something more interesting and cool with it than they did in previous games.
