To the excitement of Simpsons fans everywhere, EA released The Simpsons Tapped Out on Android after already existing on iPhone and iPad for a while. The premise is relatively simple–Homer causes a meltdown and Springfield is wiped out. And lucky you! You’re around to rebuild it. It’s a pretty basic concept and very similar to any game akin to Farmville. As you level-up, you unlock members of The Simpsons family, other characters frequently featured on the show and buildings that fans will find familiar. [...]

Throwback Thursday: Patapon – Marching to a Different Drummer
March 28, 2013
(PATA PATA) Feel the rhthym!
(PON PON) Move your body!
(CHAKA CHAKA) March to war!
Patapon is a brilliant and adorable mash up of rhythm and strategy originally released on Sony PSP back in 2008. This game revolutionized rhythm games, and that’s not just hyperbole; it literally turned the genre around.
What I mean is most rhythm games are reactionary: music plays, notes fly across the screen, and you press the right buttons or slide your finger on the screen in keeping with that tune. In Patapon, the player creates the music himself and it’s the game elements that must react to him. [...]
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Review: Adapted to Survive
March 26, 2013
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the 3DS and WiiU is my first taste of a playing a game that’s more of an update than a true sequel. While I typically steer clear of that kind of title, Monster Hunter Tri for Wii got me so engrossed in these boss battling action-RPGs, I had to buy it day one. But what I found was more than a simple upgrade to a great game. It’s an adaptation to survive an environment that’s traditionally been hostile and cold to it: the Western Hemisphere. [...]
Handheld Harem at PAX East
March 25, 2013
This is a quick tour of the Handheld Lounge at PAX East 2013. This was an amazing spot that I spent a good many hours making friends and taking occasional naps on the beanbag chairs. I also got about 100 street passes without moving a muscle.
Were you at the lounge? Wish you were? Tell us about it in the comments!
PAXover Address
March 25, 2013
Hey Pocket Players,
It’s time for the most somber holiday in the gaming calendar: the week after the Penny Arcade Expo, which I have dubbed “PAXover.” After meeting so many awesome and interesting people, learning so much about the industry, and playing so many cool games, I’m just overwhelmed with new ideas and dreams for this site. I honestly don’t know where to start! But maybe all of you can help me with that…
Here are some of the big new initiatives we plan to take on in the weeks to come. Your input into these matters would be most appreciated: [...]
PAX East – 2013 – Where In the World is KC?
March 23, 2013
Greetings!
KC is currently gallivanting around Boston, enjoying himself at PAX East. If you don’t know what PAX is, well KC probably wants nothing to do with you. Just kidding, of course. PAX, the brainchild of the folks behind Penny Arcade, all came about when these guys decided to host an event catered toward gaming fanatics. Over the years, it has consistently grown and will probably continue to do so. Spawning eternal blithe for all of the dedicated Pocket Players on this website, PAX even has a handheld lounge for all types of handheld play.
KC wanted to post his reasons for being MIA but after his poor wife spent all night working at her job, she came home in the morning to notice he hadn’t posted anything so she thought she might have at it. Expect a full report from KC about PAX upon his return.
So, if you are currently at PAX or if you were at PAX, did it meet your expectations? What other things have you seen related to handhelds aside from the lounge? Let us know in the comments section!
