Takao Unno, Gamefreak’s long time art director and now director for Pokemon Black and White 2, sat down with Game Informer this week to answer some of those nagging little questions about the Pokemon universe, like the one in the headline, and “What exactly happens inside of a Pokéball?”
Unno’s responses are pretty funny, even though he doesn’t always give straight answers. However, you can still get a good idea of the image he has for the Pokemon universe in the video games and animations.

You know, this is the kind of nerdy question I would discuss with my friends for hours on end back in the day… Now we just gotta wonder if that “meat” they make is considered organic or is it like, healthy plastic.

Well, considering they do have “Moo Moo Milk”, which does come from a Miltank, so I’m assuming that Pokemon steaks come from Miltanks as well.

I’m thinking it’s a sort of synthetic meat, like the kind they started growing in labs, like they talk about in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jI1s25cDkkU

Okay, now we’re getting into the next level of weird Pokemon conversation: If Miltank makes milk, is it for babies? We’ve never actually seen a baby Miltank since most Pokemon hatch fully grown.

There’s a book in the Canalave Library in D/P/Plat that mentions people eating fish pokemon, so I’m pretty sure it’s canon that people eat at least some kinds of pokemon.

You’re right! I do remember that in the episode of TPT we did on Pokémon myths and legends. Something about being sure to not waste a thing when you eat it or something. Heh.
I get the feeling that this guy would say people don’t do that kind of thing anymore though. Just like the way people used to war and kill each other with Pokémon, mankind has “evolved” beyond that kind of barbarism.

I would assume that people eat Pokémon, it’s only natural that people would cook the local fauna for food. Tho mostly the show never shows or mentions what a feast of meat actually contains. But according to Dexter (the pokedex) on many occasions it does say that Pokémon do eat other Pokémon, and more recently in Pokémon Black and White 2, Kyurem’s data says that it when it was a complete Pokémon (before it was split apart) it used to be so vicious that it ate both men and Pokémon.

I’m going to assume that some children have mistaken Vanillish for an Icecream.
